Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on September 21 the ranking of national teams ahead of the draw for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held early next year in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Moroccan national team is in the first pot, along with the host country of the continental competition Ivory Coast, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, as well as the defending champion Senegal.
The draw for the CAN will take place on October 12 in Abidjan, the capital of the hosting country, CAF recalled, noting that the continental competition will take place between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
In the last edition of the African Cup, which was held in Cameroon in 2022, the Moroccan team was eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing 2-1 to Egypt.
In a press conference on September 8, the Moroccan national football team’s head coach, Walid Regragui, reaffirmed his team’s determination to win the next African Cup of Nations.
“Our goal is the next African Cup of Nations. Morocco is now a force to be reckoned with in international football,” the coach said, stressing that “we are committed to building on the strong performance we displayed at the World Cup.”
However, Regragui stressed the Moroccan Atlas Lions will put their impressive run at the 2022 World Cup behind them and concentrate on winning the continental competition.
