Copper Queens Eye Angola Scalp 

The Zambia Women’s National Team will take on Angola in the first leg of the second round qualifier for the Morocco 2024 WAFCON. 

Coach Bruce Mwape summoned a strong 23 member squad led by skipper Barbra Banda. 

The gaffer has declared the team ready for this afternoon’s game. Mwape says the team’s target is getting a positive result. 

“All the players are ready for the game. If we get a win here it will an advantage for us. It will give us room to try out new players,” he said. 

“Our aim here is to get a positive result that’s what the fans should expect from the team.”

Goalkeeper Catherine Musonda is expecting a tough match and wants the team not to underrate Angola.

“The game is hard, we don’t have to underrate them just because we beat them at the COSAFA Women’s Championship,” she told the ZamFoot Crew. 

“We just have to work together, push each other and score a lot of goals.”

“We asking the fans to keep supporting us both here and at home and we will do our job,” she added. 

Spain based forward Rachel Kundananji was the last ti arrive yesterday but says she was born ready and is itching to get on the pitch with her Copper Queens teammates. 

“I was born ready. It’s an important match so we have to concentrate and win this match,” she said. 

Zambia will be seeking a fourth consecutive appearance at the WAFCON and build on their highest ever podium finish when they won bronze at the expense of Nigeria at the 2022 WAFCON held in Morocco. 

The Copper Queens will take on Angola on at 17h00 at Luanda’s Estadio 22 de Junho before hosting them in a return leg at Levy Mwanawasa stadium on 5 December, 2023.

Winner over two legs will qualify for the WAFCON to be held in Morocco in 2024.
