Stakeholders in the beef manufacturing industry have commended Government for the measures put in place to curb anthrax.

This follows the latest Government Gazette in which the government has declared the 2023 Anthrax outbreak an emergency which is pursuant to section 63 (C) of the Animal Health Act.

Zambeef Executive Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Eezekiel Sekele says the notice provides guidance for the movement, management and consumption of livestock in both High Risk and Low Risk areas.

Mr Sekele says the notice highlights the critical importance of vaccinations and efficiency of responses by the authorities in effectively managing outbreaks of this nature.

Speaking in an interview in Lusaka, Mr Sekele said the company is delighted that government has provided clear guidelines on the trade of livestock during this period.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Association of Manufacturers -ZAM- has welcomed government’s enhanced measures to curb anthrax and is optimistic that the move will lessen the spread of the disease.

ZAM President ASHU SAGAR said for beef traders in the informal sector, will promote sanity and understanding on who to and where to buy from and not to move stock within certain regions.
