Chief Mushota of Kawambwa District has called on government to intervene in the management of Kawambwa Tea Factory before it goes into extinction.
Chief Mushota is saddened by the poor irrigation of the historic tea plant that is threatening the future of the production of tea in the district.
Speaking when Labour Minister Brenda Tambatamba called on him at his palace, Chief Mushota said the fields are drying up because of lack of consistent irrigation at the tea plantation.
And Kawambwa District Commissioner Godfrey Chilambwe said Kawambwa Tea is the largest employer in the district but poor management of the plantation might force it to close down and people will lose jobs.
And Ms. Tambatamba said she will engage management of the tea company to find solutions on how best government can improve its operations.
