U-20 Chess Team Set For Africa Junior Tourney

Under 20 National Chess Champion Samuel Mumba is expected to lead a team of four players to represent Zambia at the Africa Junior Chess Championship in Mauritania next month.

Mumba will be joined by Raphael Sharone, who is currently representing Zambia in Italy at the World Junior championship.

Others are Naomi Mwale and Victoria Mweetwa.

Chess Federation of Zambia President Leslie Chikuse says the tournament is important because Zambia wants to produce young international masters at under 20 level.

Chikuse told that Sharone is currently putting up a top quality performance in Italy.

Chikuse said Sharone has so far gained 5.5 points from 9 rounds and currently sits 30th from 1 hundred and 50 players.
