WHO Working To Curb Fake & Substandard Medicines

The World Health Organisation -WHO- says it is working with member States to improve the supply chain of medicines and medical products in the region.

WHO Regional Office for Africa Technical Officer for Health Products Babatunda Tayeola says the move is aimed at curbing fake and substandard medicines, which are prevalent in Africa.

Dr. Tayeola was speaking during a webinar on Substandard and falsified medicines as part of commemorations to mark the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week Campaign for Africa.

And World Organisation for Animal Health -WOAH- Antimicrobial Resistance and Food Safety Programme Officer Jane Lwoyero said her organisation is working with WHO to develop a regional surveillance system for fake and substandard medicines in the animal health sector.
