Zambia Begins Fertilizer Exports To Tanzania

Zambia has started exporting fertilizer to Tanzania.

United Capital Fertilizer has exported 30- thousand metric tons of Fertilizer to Tanzania for the 2023- 2024 season to the Tobacco Board of Tanzania.

Speaking during the flag off ceremony in Chilanga District, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga said the export of Fertilizer means Zambia is slowly changing the narrative of being a net importer.

And Mr. Mulenga dispelled assertions that government is distributing Fertilizer to Farmer Input Support Programme -FISP- beneficiaries in medas and plastic bags.

He said the export of Fertilizer is a clear sign that Zambia is taking the value addition agenda which is creating jobs and meaningful development serious.

Mr. Mulenga thanked the Tanzanian government for choosing to do business with Zambia.

He said the Company will also start exporting fertilizer to Zimbabwe next week.

Mr. Mulenga said Zambia is D-compound Fertilizer secure.

He said the price for Fertilizer in the country has since reduced to about 7- hundred kwacha from 1-thousand 3-hundred kwacha because it is being manufactured locally.

Meanwhile United Capital Fertilizer Acting Board Chairperson Joseph Mbinji said the company plans to increase annual fertilizer production to 8- hundred thousand metric tons when the production plant under construction is complete.

Mr. Mbiji said the company targets to produce 1-point 5-million metric tons of Fertilizer by 2028.

Speaking at the same event Tanzanian High Commissioner to Zambia General Mathews Mkingule said the export of Fertilizer to his country will strengthen business ventures with Zambia.

He said African countries have the potential to increased trade among themselves.
